I teach student-centered lessons that focus on the needs of the learner. I have a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Second Language Learners. I also help students prepare for getting their GED.
I support adult learners by helping them strengthen their English skills and prepare for the GED. I guide students in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and I also teach the core GED subjects—math, language arts, science, and social studies. I create clear, supportive lessons that meet learners where they are, offering patient instruction, practical strategies, and steady encouragement so they can build confidence, reach their goals, and become more independent in their daily lives.
For this individual ESL lesson, my goal is to help the learner confidently talk about their daily routine using present-tense verbs and clear time expressions. I begin by asking a few simple questions—such as “What do you do in the morning?”—to learn what the student already knows and to introduce useful vocabulary like wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and go to work. After this warm-up, I model short, natural sentences using frames such as “I usually ___” and “After work, I ___,” showing how these structures fit into a typical day. Once the student feels comfortable, we practice together by building sentences step-by-step, with me offering prompts, corrections, and gentle support. The learner then creates a short description of their own daily routine, using words like usually, sometimes, and finally to connect ideas. We end the session by reviewing any new vocabulary, clarifying grammar points that came up, and having the student share one sentence they feel proud of. This structure keeps the lesson personal, supportive, and focused on the learner’s real-life communication needs.
What sets me apart from other tutors is the depth and breadth of my experience and the way I connect with adult learners. With more than four decades of teaching across all age groups—and a focused commitment to adult ESL, GED, digital literacy, and Citizenship—I understand how adults learn, what motivates them, and what barriers they face. I don’t just teach content; I build confidence. My students often arrive feeling embarrassed, overwhelmed, or unsure of their abilities, and I create a patient, supportive environment where they feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow. I tailor every lesson to real-life goals, whether that means improving workplace communication, passing the GED, navigating digital tools, or preparing for the naturalization interview.
I also bring a unique blend of instructional expertise and advocacy. My work extends beyond the classroom—I help learners strengthen their families, pursue better jobs, and participate fully in their communities. My interest in becoming a DOJ Accredited Representative reflects my commitment to supporting immigrants not only academically but legally and socially. This combination of compassion, professionalism, and long-term dedication makes my tutoring not just educational, but transformative for the people I serve.
My lessons are for all levels of ESL learners and GED students.
