About Joanna

About me

I trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and made my professional debut in the West End production of Annie at the age of 10. Throughout my career I performed in a variety of productions, including Little Shop of Horrors, Abigail’s Party and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, giving me experience across both musicals and classical theatre.

My passion has always been understanding character and truthful performance. I believe every actor brings something unique to a role, and my coaching focuses on helping students explore a character’s objectives, relationships and motivations so that every performance feels authentic and believable. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, drama school or simply developing your acting skills, I provide supportive, personalised coaching to help you grow in confidence and bring your best work to every performance.

About the lesson

Every lesson is tailored to your individual goals, experience and aspirations. Whether you are preparing for a professional audition, drama school, a monologue, self-tape or performance, we will work together to develop a truthful, authentic character that feels real to you. We will explore the script in depth, looking at your character’s objectives, relationships, motivations and emotional journey, helping you make informed choices that lead to honest, believable performances.

My coaching is about understanding the person behind the words. Together we will explore who your character is, what they want, why they are saying what they say, and who they are speaking to. I believe that when you truly understand a character and connect them with your own emotional truth, the script becomes natural rather than something simply memorised.

If you are preparing for an audition, we will also look at the production, the company or drama school you are auditioning for, and what they may be looking for. We can discuss whether your chosen monologue is the right fit or explore alternative pieces that better showcase your strengths, giving you the best opportunity to make a lasting impression.

My goal is to create a supportive, encouraging environment where you can grow in confidence, develop your craft and deliver performances that are honest, engaging and uniquely your own.
