About Karina

¡Hola!

I'm Karina, a passionate native Spanish and French teacher with a love for connecting with people from all over the world. A fun fact about me is that I have worked in Disneyland Paris!

Teaching Spanish and French has not only allowed me to share this beautiful language but has also opened doors to incredible friendships and meaningful learning experiences.

My journey as a teacher began when I was just a little girl. Believe it or not, my favorite toy was a board I used to teach my imaginary students! Haha, I guess you could say my love for teaching was there from the start!

When I'm not teaching Spanish (or occasionally French), you'll find me hiking through nature, exploring new places, or enjoying time with family and friends with lots of laughter, of course. That's why humor plays such an important role in my lessons!

My teaching adventure began nine years ago, during my university days studying Modern Foreign Languages. Back then, I tutored children and adults in English and French. Fast forward to my third year, and I was granted an Erasmus scholarship that took me to Wroclaw, Poland. There, I taught French and Spanish to Polish students — all while communicating in English!

In the past three years, I've expanded my expertise by completing a Spanish for Foreigners course at the prestigious Miguel de Cervantes University, a Master’s Degree in Adult Teaching and EdTech, and more recently a certified course in Instructional Design.

I've had the privilege of working as a freelance teacher for academies in my hometown and London, teaching students from all over the world, both online and face-to-face. I've also collaborated with companies, offering business Spanish and French lessons.

Teaching is my passion, and I look forward to helping you on your Spanish learning journey, making it fun, engaging, and full of opportunities for growth!

SUPERPROF TEACHER INTERVIEW:

1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
- I am originally from Spain, so Spanish is my mother tongue! When I was a kid up to 14 years-old, I attended a school where they taught German (and I was also very good at it!), however I fell in love with French when I changed school and that's the language they used to teach... and the rest is history :)

2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
- For Spanish, it is "Anacleto, Agente Secreto", who is a secret agent with very bad luck! and for French, I used to love watching "Titeuf" and "Tintin".

3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
- In Spanish, we love to stay at the table after finishing our food just to keep the conversation going with our friends/family, this is called "sobremesa" and I love that tradition, specially during summer!

4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?
- Spanish is my mother tongue and it's a language that makes me feel as myself, with all its sayings, expressions, jokes... with my level of English and French I can manage to express jokes as well, but sometimes it's not the same because you can't translate literally.

 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
- The main difficulty in learning Spanish can be expecting to speak, write and comprehend in a short time. It takes discipline and not having high expectations, just to try to have fun! Learning Spanish with me means you will take steady steps and you will build a great foundation. It will be like a garden that we will prepare and then we will add flowers to it.

 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
- I remember when I was a kid at school and I was learning English, my classmates would always ask me for help to complete certain tasks, and I loved helping them!

 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
- I have lived in France, Poland and the UK, so these experiences definitely made me have a complete immersion in the language and the culture, and therefore I could improve my skills a lot.

8) What makes you a Superprof in language?
- I have more than 8 years of teaching experience and I constantly attend courses, events and workshops to keep up to date with new trends in learning/teaching in order to provide my students with the best learning experience. Currently, I am taking a university course in Digital Learning, to elevate the lessons for my online students.
