About Cate
I graduated from college with Summa Cum Laude and a Bachelor's thesis that earned High Honors. I have experience leading a writing seminar for first-year college students so I am very keen to develop students of all ages into writers that are fully prepared for all levels of education. This does not just mean drilling students on grammar skills but providing strategies to organize my student's thoughts and help them tackle books, writing projects and anything in between. Now as an educator for elementary school students I am very passionate about building a relationship with my students, meeting them where they are and getting them to a point where they can really shine academically.

As a new graduate from Wesleyan University and now working in the classroom, I hope to offer my students more than just a homework helper. I want to empower my students with the strategies and skills to tackle challenges and help them shine academically. For younger students: 5-minute warm-up which could include a Wordle, a rebus puzzle, word games or trivia to get our brains back into writing mode! 10 minutes maximum of explicit teaching or review to discuss grammar, spelling or writing structure. The rest of the time is for my student to work, collaborate and get reps in the skills they need developing the most! I love reading with students, synthesizing text or providing tools to organize their thoughts and organize their writing. For older students: 5-minute warm-up and catch up. This could include a debrief about their day, a quick crossword or a review of what we covered last session or in class. 15 minutes to answer questions they have from schoolwork and provide new tools for brainstorming, outlining, text analysis, and editing. The rest of the session would be devoted to getting into the work whether that be school essays, personal projects or college applications.
