About Jess
Literature, creative writing, and reading have always been genuine passions of mine. It wasn’t always easy to engage confidently with texts at school, as I was a much slower reader than my peers. Over time, though, I learned to adapt - developing strategies to read and write more efficiently, and ultimately achieve the results I knew I was capable of.
I truly believe that English and literature become far more enjoyable once you discover what draws you into a text - what makes you WANT to read.
I also understand that analysing and understanding texts can sometimes feel challenging or even overwhelming. That’s why I aim to support you in breaking through those barriers. Together, we’ll explore prose and creative writing in a way that builds your confidence—discussing techniques, unpacking meaning, and helping analysis become something that feels natural and intuitive.

Exploring my teaching strategies as a tutor has been a process of understanding what truly helps students learn, rather than simply delivering content. I focus on adaptability, recognising that each student approaches learning differently, and that no single method works for everyone. By drawing on a range of techniques - discussion, modelling, guided practice, and independent work - I’m able to tailor each lesson to suit the individual.
A key part of my approach is breaking complex ideas down into manageable steps. Whether we’re analysing a text or developing a piece of creative writing, I prioritise clarity and structure so that students feel confident before moving on. I also encourage active engagement: asking questions, exploring interpretations, and making connections, so learning becomes something they participate in rather than passively receive.
I place strong emphasis on building confidence alongside skill. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt their understanding. By creating a supportive environment and celebrating progress, I help students develop both competence and independence.
Ultimately, my teaching is guided by each student’s personal goals. Whether they’re aiming to improve grades, refine personal writing, or simply enjoy reading more, I shape lessons to help them get there - all while fostering a lasting sense of curiosity and motivation!
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
Jess is an incredibly inspiring and talented individual. I met her just as she was finishing her degree, and since then I have been incredibly grateful to have her in my life.
I am currently in my final year at university studying English, and I can truly say that all the help she has given me has really improved my confidence, execution and in turn, my marks. She has a very keen eye for detail, and is the best proof reader I have met. She manages to be kind and funny whilst teaching and engaging with both friends and, I am sure, other students.
I would absolutely recommend her for any help with English, drama, history or music teaching, and I believe she would make an excellent SuperProf for any student looking to push themselves to achieve their best.See more recommendations
