About Julie
Hi! I'm Julie. I've been writing and editing professionally since 2010. I like writing, and my clips include statehouse reporting, marketing for a YC-backed startup, a cover article for a real estate magazine, patient-focused pieces, and copy for an ad company. I've edited academic papers, theses, and journal articles across health communications, social sciences, and public policy. I am currently the copy editor for Watermark magazine for NPS's Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
Previously, I taught U.S. History to grades 5–12, including APUS (my favorite class!)—so I know how to break down a complicated assignment, meet students where they are, and teach the thinking behind good writing, not just the grammar rules.
My B.A. is in American Studies (U.S. history, English, and political science.) I hold an Editing Certificate from the University of Chicago and an ISO Plain Language Standard certification from the Plain Language Academy.
I'm currently completing certificates in Medical Writing & Editing (University of Chicago) and Plain Language (Simon Fraser University), and I am enrolled at Boston University for an M.S. in Health Communications.
I edit in AMA, AP, APA, and Chicago style. I'm a professional member of ACES, AMWA, EFA, and PLAIN. (I like learning, and I like teaching—if that was not obvious!)
