About Mary
I left a permanent University post last year to become an independent scholar and free-lance writer and teacher. I have 25 years of experience lecturing in University Departments of English at all levels: BA, MA and PhD. I have also published widely in my specialist field, 18th century literature and culture.
I have a PhD from the University of York, an MA from the University of Sussex, and a first class BA from University College London.
Although my specialist field is English literature, much of what I can help with is editing, structuring and motivation and is therefore wholly transferable to projects in History, Drama, Art History, Philosophy etc
In my 25 years lecturing in Universities I have supervised hundreds of longer projects and dissertations at all levels. I know how daunting these extended pieces of work can be and how often students need just little more support, particularly with motivation and with the structuring of ideas. My students have always found me helpful and supportive.

I will support you to complete your humanities dissertation to the best of your ability at BA, MA or PhD level.
We can work in one of two ways, ...
If you have already started your project, I can read drafts and send back in-line comments which we will then discuss in a tutorial. We will meet in person, if you are local to the Sheffield area, or we can meet on-line.
Otherwise, If you have not yet started writing and you are struggling to get going with a project, I can help you to generate ideas, to understand good practice in research where to find reliable sources, what plagiarism means and how to avoid it.
Tutorials will last for an hour. First tutorial is free.
