About Stanley

I was a dominant and successful chess player in the 80's as my brother taught me to play at age ten in 1974. I still recall the specifics of the lessons he taught me. I am active on chess sites online playing people from around the world. I am not a master but have many years experience and I now study opening theory and strategy from many sites to incorporate new thoughts and ideas into my games. I play an average of 40 games at a time making one or two moves a day per game because that is about the limit I have as far as remembering each game's specific battle plan once I return to it the next day. Some of my games take months and others I finish in a week or less so my pace is varied. I also play some ten minute games to work on my speed chess. I know when to do the unexpected and frustrate my opponent as I believe interpreting the plot of my opponent is as crucial a key to success as understanding your own plot. The key is to know which to prioritize at any given time: Your own attack vs. interrupting the plot of your opponent with key defensive maneuvers. I taught my own children and many classmates to play over the years as I believe chess strategy is important in daily decision making of all kinds and I truly love the game.

Learn when to follow the basics and when to go off script and unleash a devastating and unexpected attack. Identify the weakness in your opponent's setup and learn when to sacrifice a piece to stun your opponent. It is always more fun to attack than defend but sometimes you need to trap your opponent's pieces one by one until they get frustrated and make a mistake. Operate from a position of strength by befuddling the enemy.
