About Chloe
My name is Chloe and I first started playing guitar when I was 12. I did lessons for 6 years, learning classical guitar and then took a break from guitar for a few years, I found the pieces I was being given to be quite boring after a few years and wanted to play songs that I actually knew and liked. After my break I had to figure out how to even play a guitar again (which came quite quickly considering the previous experience) and that is when I stumbled upon Leon Alex and discovered fingerstyle guitar. I fell in love with how beautiful his music was, it was all so flawless and full of emotion, and it was songs that I actually knew! I can’t tell you how many hours I invested just watching that guy on YouTube in awe! Since then, fingerstyle guitar and I have become inseparable and I just want to share the magic with everyone!

I am most experienced with fingerstyle/fingerpicking, if you are looking to learn to strum and play chords I am not the teacher for you. I would prefer students with some sort of basic understanding of music, crotchets, minims, rests, repeats, time signature etc but I can also teach this to you if needed. Lessons can include how to read standard notation, although I personally prefer tab over standard notation, you need to have at least a basic understanding of timing and duration of notes which can’t be properly displayed in tab. Generally I will provide you with sheet music with both standard notation and tab. For complete beginners: you will be taken through string by string learning the notes on those strings and learning how to use your right hand to play single and multiple strings together, how to correctly hold and position your hands around the guitar. Once you’ve learned a few notes and how to play them I will begin providing you will sheet music to practice and we can then begin fine-tuning your playing style and working on note changes and other small details that will make your playing much easier. For non-beginners: I would consider myself to be “advanced” with guitar, but not professional, meaning I can teach you *almost* everything. If you already know how to play a guitar, I can teach you more advanced playing techniques such as percussive guitar, arpeggios, harmonics and help you fine-tune your playing style. As you progress, I can provide you with more challenging pieces to learn and help you get through the tougher parts of those pieces. I’m also happy if you want to one-off lessons here and there, if you’re struggling with a piece and just can’t quite work out the easiest way to play something, then we can work on breaking it down together and identifying weaknesses in your playing and where can make improvements. While you sit there pondering if fingerstyle guitar is for you, look up Leon Alex, Eddie Van De Meer and James Bartholomew for some inspiration!
