About Charlena

Living in Washington DC has shaped my view of music as a craft that demands precision. I have spent 13 years balancing performance with instruction. My work spans the gamut from adults picking up the instrument for the first time to those preparing for intense college auditions.

Whether we are discussing the complexities of Bartok or Prokofiev, the goal remains rigorous clarity. Have you considered how specific pedaling techniques influence the character of a piece?

As a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, I focus on the structural integrity of repertoire. Students rely on me for sight transposition, ABRSM exam preparation, and the nuance of scales and arpeggios. My approach integrates memorization techniques and jazz improvisation to keep the mind sharp. Do you want to build a foundation that supports your musical ambitions?

About the lesson

Progress happens when we track the small details clearly throughout our 10 month cycles. I share a digital tracker with parents monthly so everyone sees the steady growth.

This keeps us focused on specific milestones like sight reading or dynamics. It turns abstract progress into a visible road map that keeps students moving forward.

Performing these works feels like solving a puzzle with sound. My 13 years of instruction inform how I guide you through Ligeti or standard classical forms. We spend our time refining expression so you feel the music under your fingers. These hours are honestly satisfying because we tackle difficult challenges together and see real results.
