About Carrie
In May 2003, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Loyola University, Chicago. Since then, I worked at a private single sex catholic school in Chicago, Illinois for nine years. The school is an independent, single sex Catholic school that currently serves 700 students. During my first two years, I taught Physical Education for kindergarten through second grade and taught third grade girls. While in Phoenix, I have taught second grade at an episcopal school in Paradise Valley. I taught third grade at private elementary school for three years. Currently I’m a reading and math specialist at a private school in Scottsdale. I believe my experiences as a teacher, my academic background, and my dedication to improving education for all students make me a strong candidate for being an academic tutor.

Through my experiences as a teacher, I have learned the importance of treating each child as a unique learner, honoring their different backgrounds and needs. When designing instruction for my students, it is essential that the goal of the lesson is implemented using appropriate strategies in order to ensure that all students have an opportunity to learn. As a teacher, I honor multiple learning styles in my lessons by delivering instruction in a variety of ways and always making accommodations when needed. When looking at student achievement, I use both formal and informal assessments to make decisions about instruction. I understand the importance of gathering data and using it as an ongoing tool to guide instruction, measure student achievement, and identify specific strengths and weaknesses of each student. As a staff member, I participate often in professional development, where collaboratively, we converse about students and ways to improve student achievement. I continuously strive to keep up with and implement researched-based teaching strategies, especially in the areas of fluency, comprehension and technology. I am committed to providing a quality education to each of my students.
