About Jacob
To introduce myself:
My name is Jacob...
I'd say it was fifteen years ago to this day of writing when I first brushed my hand over the cold, smooth wood of a small collapsible chess set; So long ago– it seems– when I first picked up a pawn, to place it just one space forward on the board. Indeed, it seems to be so far in the past, when I picked up that first piece, and brought it forth with such fighting spirit and gusto as to shake the Earth... and lost. (Naturally, I swiped the board from the table, and roared my defiance to the world until finally, I was calm enough to try again. )
Fast forward fifteen years, and one would find me much matured... Barely able to be compared to that angry child of so long ago. Now, I remain a nigh-unstoppable king of chess in my neighborhood. Mind you, this isn't to say that I am unbeatable... Truly, by my own admission, I am just a beginner player, even after so long and continuous time of daily competition.
Truly, my one hope is to teach you just enough as to beat me in seven consecutive games, a feat which, if completed, signifies that I can teach you nothing more, and that you are already well on your way to becoming a formidable strategist, and a great player of the Game of Kings.

When I go about teaching you, whether it be your first game ever, or your 100th game, I always start with the basics. I will show you how pieces move, the basic setup of the board, how best to defend or attack at which point in the game, and a fair bit more.
I truly am a decent chess player, but my skills lie mostly in educating you in the basics and setting a strong foundation to help your further your chess goals.
If you are new to the game, the lesson may look a little like this:
- Introductions
- Basic Setup of the Board
- How the Pieces Move
- The Main Rules of Chess (Game Objective, Illegal Moves, etc.)
- Your First Game
- Review
- Your Second Game
- Review
- Scenarios of Possible Checks, Mates, Pins, and Counters
My favorite way to teach people new to the game of chess is to play against them for a few games, and leading them to make as many mistakes and follies as possible. As commonly stated as it is: A mistake may be the best way to learn.
