About Elsie

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you …. my name is Elsie Viviers and I would love to be your online tutor.

It has always been a desire of my heart to teach. Teachers encourage and build in others a desire for growth, establishing foundations and instilling in them little pearls that they will take with them into their lives as they move from strength to strength.

Children especially are active learners, but learning is not limited to children. Quite often, as teachers, our primary focus is steered toward the academic and cognitive development of the learner, however, it is also vitally important to ensure that we are nurturing in the learner a sense of self confidence, teaching them to be true to themselves, to dream big and to aspire to greatness, each in their own uniqueness, because not one of us is the same and so should not be compared to others.

I am currently studying my NQF Level 4, through the SA Childcare Association and ABA Health.

Over the years, I have developed many skill sets, some are naturally part of who I am, while others I had to learn. I am fully computer literate and have very strong administrative, organisational and people skills. I love to be creative and have been known to be resourceful. I think it would be fair to say that I do not easily give up on a challenge and also believe where there is unity in numbers, through team effort, many milestones can be overcome and excellence can be achieved.

One of my favourite things to do for relaxation is listen to music and colour in.

I do believe that we never too old to learn and that it is imperative to remain humble and to always be teachable.

About the lesson

I would like to focus on a "Pupil Centred Teaching Method", whereby the process of learning is shared between a teacher and a student. "They both play an important role while studying and it is a complete opposite to teacher-centred approach. The teacher is like a coach to students. It is important to explain the new material and encourage understanding of it. The knowledge is evaluated through school and college projects, different types of assessments, discussions, portfolio etc. Both informal and formal tasks help to measure the level of knowledge. This method of teaching connects studies with assessments to help students understand the discipline better." I would also make use of props and other visual aids to help promote the understanding of the student.
