About Max

Max Holm is a jazz pianist, composer, producer, arranger, TED speaker, author and educator. He has performed hundreds of times across the US and Europe, often with renowned jazz musicians in arenas and famous venues. With his namesake quartet, he’s performed at several jazz festivals on two continents.

Max’s jazz arrangements and recordings of Bach’s Air on the G String and Prelude in C Minor can be heard on Anne Hathaway’s and Jessica Chastain’s film Mothers’ Instinct. Max’s music has been heard by over 131 million people as part of global productions in films, network TV, cable TV, streaming programs, video channels, games, metaverses, and user-generated content.

JAZZ PIANO LESSONS FOR SERIOUS ADULT LEARNERS

If you've spent decades mastering classical piano and always wondered what it would feel like to finally play jazz — this is where that journey begins. And if you're already playing jazz, this is where you get better.

I'm Max Holm, one of the country's top jazz pianists. I've performed at major jazz festivals across the US and Europe with my own combos, composed music heard by over 100 million people worldwide, and my free educational reels have been viewed over 3 million times across Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok.

I've been a student of NEA Jazz Master Joanne Brackeen since 2018, and my books are available on Amazon.

WHO I TEACH - I work exclusively with older adult pianists. My students fall into three groups, and all of them share one thing: they're serious about getting better.

-- Classical pianists who've built long careers and are ready to finally explore jazz. You already have the discipline and the technique. What I offer is the roadmap.

-- Jazz piano teachers who want to expand their own playing so they can take their students further.

-- Professional jazz pianists who've hit a ceiling and want to break through it.

My students are located across the US and Europe. All lessons are online, and I use LIVE TRANSLATION tools so language is never a barrier, if you're not confident speaking English.

HOW IT WORKS
Before our first lesson, I'll ask about your goals and have you send me a recording of yourself playing something you're comfortable with. That tells me everything I need to know about where you are — your strengths, your habits, what we'll build on.
In that first lesson, we go straight to work.

From there, I build you a completely custom curriculum — your starting point, your goals, and a clear step-by-step plan to get there, broken into detailed lesson plans with specific assignments.

Before every following lesson, I ask you to send me a video of yourself working on your assignment. I record a live reaction video with my honest, unfiltered feedback — and if something needs more work before we move on, I'll say so.

Progress here is real and it moves fast, because everything is built around you. Lessons run an hour. We go at whatever pace serves you best — push ahead if you're fired up, take your time if you need it.

WHY I'M DIFFERENT
Most teachers hand you a method book. I wrote the method books — published under my own imprint, Easy Music Hacks, built around cutting straight to what matters. I don't teach filler. I teach what I know works.

I'm a former adjunct professor at Oklahoma State University, raised in Sweden, dual US/Sweden citizen, and I've had the privilege of performing alongside many distinguished jazz musicians throughout my career.

I teach primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 3 PM, with later availability on Mondays and Wednesdays. All times are flexible for students in different time zones.

Details

Paying for more than 1 lesson at a time allows you to reserve the same time and day every week. Paying for only 1 lesson at a time means that we will find a mutually convenient time only after you have paid for the 1 lesson.

Regarding the introductory lesson: I will watch you play something and I will suggest what you need to work on. I will explain how I teach, how the lessons work, what I expect from you and what you can expect from me. You will receive a video file of the lesson and a summary transcript of what was said.

The free lesson lasts from 15 minutes to 30 minutes maximum.
