About Karan
Why I want to teach you chess
I'm a working designer. My job is to solve problems visually — to find patterns, think ahead, and make decisions under uncertainty. Chess taught me all of that long before design school did.
I won medals and trophies through school, not as a chess kid, but as someone who just loved the game enough to keep playing. And somewhere along the way I realized — chess doesn't just make you better at chess. It makes you sharper, calmer, and more deliberate in everything you do.
That's what I want to pass on.
Most beginners quit early because no one explains the why behind the moves. I was lucky — I figured it out through years of playing. You don't have to take that long.
I teach because chess genuinely changed how I think. It built my concentration in a world full of distractions, stretched my attention span when everything else was trying to shrink it, and made me someone who looks three moves ahead before acting. I believe it can do the same for you — whether you're 10 or 40, whether you want to compete or just want a sharper mind.
No jargon. No pressure. Just honest, structured learning from someone who's been there and still loves the game.

Teaching Approach & Method
I start where you are — zero assumptions, zero jargon. Whether you're 10 or 40, if you're a complete beginner, this is built for you.
How I teach
No textbook dumps. Every concept gets introduced through play first — you see it happen on the board before I explain why. Then we drill it until it sticks. Puzzles, short games, pattern exercises — all mixed so your brain stays engaged, not overloaded.
Class structure
A typical session runs like this:
Warm-up — a quick puzzle or position to get your brain in gear
Concept of the day — one idea, taught through a real game situation
Practice — we play or drill that concept immediately
Review — what worked, what to watch for next time
One concept per class. Not ten. Depth over speed.
What's different about me
I'm a designer — I think visually. I don't explain chess like a rulebook. I show you why a position looks right or wrong before you can even articulate it. Pattern recognition is my thing, and I'll make it yours too.
Who this is for
Complete beginners of any age — kids, teens, adults. If you've never touched a chess piece or lost every game you've played, that's exactly the right starting point. No catching up needed.
