I use a inductive approach, where I start by relating the concept with the student before i can dive in the abstract concept. Also I use a lot of representations this gives the student an opportunity to see the topic at a concrete level before moving up to the more complex and abstract idea's. I also scaffold the student until he/she understands the concept and they can do it on their own.
