About Alec
With 4 years of jazz piano teaching experience and a DMA in Piano Performance, I’ve developed a teaching approach that supports both technical mastery and creative exploration. My work often involves preparing students for competitive music programs such as Berklee and Juilliard. I believe that jazz musicians must be fluent in harmony, rhythm, and expressive technique, so my lessons focus on strengthening these core areas. Students work on voicing, improvisation, ear training, transcription, harmonic mapping, and repertoire development. I also incorporate classical-based technical exercises to support precision and tone quality. Over the years, I’ve helped students refine their improvisational style and prepare compelling audition pieces. I shape each lesson according to the student’s goals, learning pace, and musical personality. I want my studio to be a place where students feel encouraged to explore, question, and grow. Ultimately, my mission is to help aspiring jazz musicians develop the artistic maturity, technical skill, and personal confidence they need to succeed in advanced study or performance.
