About Sophie
With a Doctorate of Musical Arts and a decade of professional experience, I am dedicated to guiding students through their musical journey on the Violin, Viola, and Cello. My background as a professional musician has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience, which I’m passionate about sharing with students of all ages. From early childhood to adults, my goal is to nurture each student’s musical abilities and inspire a love for playing.
My approach to teaching is deeply rooted in creating a supportive and personalized learning environment. I tailor each lesson to suit the individual needs and goals of the student, whether they are just starting out or looking to refine advanced skills. I believe in a balanced approach that integrates technical mastery with musical expression, helping students build a strong foundation while also encouraging creativity and personal interpretation.
In addition to focusing on technique and performance, I place a strong emphasis on fostering a comprehensive understanding of music theory and its application to each instrument. This helps students make meaningful connections between their technical skills and musicality, enhancing their overall proficiency and enjoyment of playing. I also incorporate a diverse repertoire, allowing students to explore various styles and develop versatility in their playing.
Outside of teaching, I remain actively involved in the music community, which keeps me connected to current trends and innovations in the field. This ongoing engagement enriches my teaching and allows me to bring fresh insights and inspiration to my students. My ultimate aim is to help each student achieve their musical goals, develop their talents, and find joy in their musical endeavors.

In my private music lessons, each session is tailored to fit the individual needs and goals of the student. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to refine advanced skills, the lessons are designed to build a strong foundation in technique, artistry, and musicality. We start by assessing your current level and setting clear, achievable objectives, ensuring that each lesson is productive and aligned with your personal aspirations.
I emphasize a balanced approach that integrates technical exercises with musical expression. For Violin, Viola, and Cello, we work on developing proper technique, including posture, bowing, and intonation, alongside musical interpretation and performance skills. Lessons incorporate a variety of repertoire, from classical to contemporary pieces, allowing students to explore different styles and develop versatility in their playing.
To enhance the learning experience, I incorporate a range of pedagogical tools and resources, including practice strategies, sight-reading exercises, and ear training. We also focus on fostering a deep understanding of music theory and how it applies to your instrument, helping you make connections between technique and musical expression. This holistic approach aims to build both technical proficiency and artistic sensitivity.
