About Charlene
I have always had an overactive imagination and somewhere along the way I realized that same imagination made me a genuinely wonderful teacher for young curious minds. My own path into teaching came through years working in children's theater before I shifted focus specifically toward piano instruction using many of the same playful imaginative techniques. Sixteen years later I still approach every single lesson like a fun little adventure rather than a structured formal class because that is honestly just how my brain naturally works. Parents often tell me their child begs to go to their piano lesson which is not something they ever expected to hear about a music class. I occasionally teach playful adults too who specifically want lessons to feel light and imaginative rather than serious and intimidating like their childhood classes once did. After sixteen years and six hundred sixty students nothing satisfies me more than watching genuine delighted laughter turn quietly into real measurable progress.

My lessons live in a world of imagination where a simple hand position exercise might become a story about a spider crawling gently across the keys. I invent little characters and stories around technical concepts because abstract instructions like relax your wrist mean far more to a young student when it becomes a floppy noodle arm game. Sixteen years of this playful approach has shown me that imagination genuinely unlocks technical understanding especially for children but honestly for delighted grown ups too who never expected a piano lesson to feel this fun. Repertoire often includes made up silly pieces alongside real ones because sometimes the sillier the piece the more naturally a difficult technique gets absorbed without a student even noticing they are working hard. Props drawings and little handmade stories show up regularly in my studio turning lessons into something closer to imaginative play than formal instruction. Even technical corrections get wrapped in playful language like asking fingers to tiptoe softly rather than simply saying play quieter. My entire philosophy is that genuine joy and imagination unlock more natural technique than any purely serious approach ever could.
