About Hester

I am passionate about the built environment and how best to use tools to document it or create marvelous works of art. As an experienced lecturer, I enjoy facilitating greatness for my students. The last time I lectured formally at an institution, a student of mine won first prize in a national design competition with my guidance. Sustainability is at the heart of my way of life, and I can show you how to make your designs more energy efficient with the least effort. Contact me with your learning needs and we can work out a program suitable for you, or just quickly go over the basics to get you started. Let me show you how to use AutoCAD, REVIT, or SketchUp. I am also available for Design critiques, learning Project Management, or basic Architectural Management. Another of my passions is Sustainable Design, so if you need to get your building closer to zero emissions, I am your go-to person. Looking forward to helping you!

About the lesson

My aim is to help you develop your skills and knowledge set as fast as possible. With over ten years' experience as a Lecturer in Architecture, I know how to help you reach your best potential. Contact me for learning Architectural Software or for help with any other Architectural subjects. Every lesson is personalized to suit your personal learning style and learning speed. I can teach you how to use AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp (except for SketchUp Layout), and the most popular software at the level you require. I am glad to assist even if you are stuck with a design problem or just require some general critique on your building design. Lessons are mostly conducted online, but I am willing to travel in the Melbourne region. Please note the travel charges should you wish a face-to-face tutorial.

Bernard made a lot of progress by himself before approaching me for finer tweaking of his document set. He is dedicated to unlocking the powers of Revit and spends a lot of his free time to supplement his skills in Microstation to include the use Revit.

Her knowledge of SketchUp is incredible and I was impressed with her patience and her abilities to find work-arounds, when my Pro version of SketchUp failed to do, what it should on the occasional task At one point I was struggling with a plan based aspect and she sent me a fresh plan, made in her own time, to integrate it into my workflow, to help speed things up. I can highly recommend her as a true professional who was keen to work with me on aspects relevant to my project and my knowledge base in a patient and effective manner.

Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?
Using a computer the first time was delightful, because it made it so much easier to produce drawings, and to correct the drawings.
What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?
The biggest technological evolution I've experienced in computer tech is how the physical size of computers have shrunk. Hard drives that could save up to 5Gb were almost the same size of a brick.
Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.
My interest and expertise in the computer world is to use and share the knowledge Computer Aided Draughting software. The most users approach me for help in AutoCAD, ArchiCAD and Sketchup to help with Architectural, Engineering, and Design drawing.
Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?
Visionaries in any field are inspiring. I recognise that Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg had a huge impact on a large amount of people across the globe. My role models are operational in a different field altogether. Sir Norman Foster has successfully run an architectural practice, and his designs are evident in a lot of cities. If you see a highrise building that is contextually appropriate, it will most likely be one of his. My other heroes are all women who manage to become successful in their chosen careers other than housekeeping and nursing.
What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?
Everything is too complicated if you take only a glance. When you learn something one step at a time, it becomes easier. That is how I facilitate the learning of complicated draughting software that would normally seem impossible to learn.
What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?
Some of the passions other than teaching CAD are to live a balanced life, making time for all practices - that of the spirit, the mind, the body, and to love deeply.
