About Maya
I discovered my love for singing early, fascinated by how the voice can communicate emotion and connect people. This passion led me to pursue a B.Mus in Vocal Music, where I gained a solid technical and artistic foundation. Over 8 years of teaching, I’ve worked with students of all levels, helping them build skill, confidence, and a personal musical identity. My approach emphasises encouragement, clarity, and patience, creating lessons that feel motivating and supportive. I tailor lessons to each learner’s needs, combining technical guidance, creative exploration, and performance preparation. I believe in fostering an environment where mistakes are opportunities for learning and students feel empowered to experiment. My goal is to guide learners towards both technical mastery and artistic confidence, helping them discover the unique potential of their voice. Outside teaching, I stay engaged with vocal studies, performance practice, and exploring diverse musical genres. This ongoing learning allows me to bring fresh insight into lessons and helps me support students with current techniques and ideas. Teaching singing is deeply rewarding because I witness learners grow in skill, confidence, and emotional expression, discovering their voice in the fullest sense.

Singing lessons begin with developing proper posture, breath control, and awareness of vocal placement. Beginners focus on tone production, vowel clarity, pitch matching, and relaxation of the vocal apparatus. I create a supportive environment where students can explore their voice freely, ask questions, and gradually build confidence. Exercises are designed to instil foundational skills while encouraging creativity and personal expression from the outset. Intermediate lessons focus on refining technique, expanding range, and developing stylistic versatility. Students work on resonance control, phrasing, dynamics, and articulation, learning to interpret songs with nuance and emotional depth. Lessons incorporate both technical exercises and repertoire practice to create a well-rounded understanding of singing. I emphasise the connection between technical mastery and expressive performance, helping students integrate skill with artistry. Advanced lessons are designed to cultivate performance readiness, artistry, and personal vocal identity. Students focus on advanced breathing techniques, tonal refinement, expression, and stage presence. We work on connecting emotionally with lyrics, managing challenging passages, and developing confidence during live performance. My goal is to help each singer understand and control their instrument fully, express themselves authentically, and enjoy the creative process while continuously improving.
