About Ashley

Hi, I’m Ashley, a Melbourne-based secondary teacher who enjoys helping students understand technology and build confidence in their own abilities. I am fully registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, hold a Master of Teaching and am in my fifth year of teaching.

I teach Digital Technologies and co-lead the development of a new Year 8 Digital Technologies curriculum. I also lead an AI Action Research Project focused on helping students use artificial intelligence thoughtfully and responsibly. These roles allow me to combine classroom teaching with my interest in technology, problem-solving and practical learning.

I offer support in Digital Technologies and coding, including helping students understand programming concepts, work through errors and explain how their solutions work. I also help students develop their understanding of computer hardware, networks, cybersecurity and responsible AI use.

I enjoy tutoring because it gives students time and space to ask questions and work through challenges at their own pace. Technology can feel overwhelming when unfamiliar terminology or a coding error gets in the way. My role is to make these challenges manageable, explain ideas clearly and help students develop strategies they can use independently.

My approach is patient, approachable and encouraging. I value students’ different backgrounds, interests and learning needs, and create an environment where they feel comfortable experimenting and making mistakes. I want students to understand what they are doing, recognize their progress and feel confident tackling the next challenge.

Whether you need support with schoolwork, a coding project or the foundations of Digital Technologies, my goal is to help you build practical skills, think critically and become a more capable, independent learner.

My Digital Technologies lessons help students understand how technology works and develop the confidence to use it thoughtfully, safely and effectively. I offer personalized tutoring for students in Years 7 to 10, including coding support, with lessons adapted to their schoolwork, interests and learning goals.

I break down technical concepts into manageable steps using everyday examples, visual explanations and practical activities. Students work through guided examples before applying their knowledge independently, with regular feedback to strengthen understanding.

Lessons can cover:

• Coding and programming: understanding variables, data types, selection, loops and functions, with support tailored to the programming language or platform used at school.
• Computational thinking: breaking problems into smaller steps, identifying patterns and planning solutions using algorithms, pseudocode and flowcharts.
• Debugging and testing: finding errors, testing solutions and explaining how code works.
• Coding projects: support with planning, developing and improving school projects while ensuring students understand and write their own code.
• Computer hardware: understanding CPUs, RAM and storage, comparing specifications and identifying performance bottlenecks.
• Networks and the internet: exploring wired and wireless connections, how data travels and common connectivity issues.
• Cybersecurity: recognizing phishing and other threats, understanding multifactor authentication and developing secure online habits.
• Data representation and cryptography: understanding binary, ASCII and the foundations of encryption.
• Artificial intelligence: exploring generative AI, evaluating outputs and using AI responsibly to support learning.
• Assessment preparation: revising concepts, interpreting questions and applying knowledge to practical scenarios.

Sessions typically run for 60 minutes and include a short review, focused teaching, guided practice and a final check of understanding. Students can bring class materials, coding tasks, assessment instructions or teacher feedback so each session addresses their current needs.

I am a fully VIT registered secondary teacher in my fifth year of teaching and hold a Master of Teaching. I teach Digital Technologies and co-lead the development of a new Year 8 Digital Technologies curriculum. I also lead an AI Action Research Project focused on responsible AI use in education.

My approach is patient, encouraging and practical. Whether students are starting to code, troubleshooting a project or strengthening their understanding of digital systems, I help them develop the skills and confidence to work more independently.
