About Sofia
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, I began my formal training at the Crowden School and received my Bachelor of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and my Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music. As a laureate of numerous national competitions, I have earned
top awards at the Fischoff, Sphinx, and Etude Club of Berkeley Competitions. I have made numerous appearances as a soloist and chamber musician at Chamber Music San Francisco, (concealed information) Calliope East Bay Arts, and National Public Radio’s “From the Top.” I was twice selected for the National Youth Orchestra of the United States, performing under conductors Michael Tilson Thomas and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and have served as Concertmaster of the Yale Philharmonia and Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra. I recently served as Principal Second Violin and Assistant Concertmaster of the Pacific Music Festival Academy Orchestra in Sapporo,
Japan, and regularly perform with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. I have spent my most recent summers teaching at the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Academy and performing at the Pacific Music Festival and Kneisel Hall.
