About Shelby
Classical repertoire and delicate bowing techniques form the bedrock of my musical life. I recall the precise tension required to execute a perfect spiccato during my time at the Berklee College of Music.
Mastery of posture and hold is where we begin our shared work. Music theory informs every note we play together.
Orchestral playing requires a different mindset than solo work, and I help you distinguish between them. Rhythm and timing are nonnegotiable.

Can you feel the difference between a tense bow arm and a fluid motion? My sessions prioritize a diagnostic assessment before setting the practice plan for 67 students I have supported. We isolate your weak points to ensure that your technical growth remains steady and measurable. Grade exam prep like ABRSM or Trinity serves as a clear roadmap for our progress.
I incorporate music theory into every bowing exercise to keep the logic of the piece clear. Your ears will start to recognize intervals and pitch shifts much faster than you expect.
Staccato bowing feels like a mechanical puzzle until the movement clicks. I provide the technical framework necessary for you to express yourself clearly. We work through the music until it finally sits right.
