About Claire
With 24 years of professional experience in violin performance and pedagogy, I hold a Doctorate in Advanced String Artistry and Performance Science. My doctoral research focused on biomechanical efficiency in elite violinists, advanced vibrato development strategies, and cognitive conditioning for high-pressure performance scenarios.
I believe violin mastery emerges from disciplined technical training combined with imaginative interpretive exploration. At the outset of our work together, I conduct an exhaustive technical assessment evaluating posture stability, shoulder and chin rest alignment, bow grip ergonomics, left-hand curvature accuracy, finger placement precision, shifting efficiency, vibrato control, intonation consistency, rhythmic coordination, and expressive phrasing awareness. This in-depth diagnostic process allows me to design a fully customised developmental framework that supports both foundational strengthening and advanced artistic refinement.
Foundational sessions emphasise scale uniformity, bow distribution balance, contact-point accuracy, controlled bow speed modulation, finger agility, and tone resonance optimisation. I carefully explain the biomechanics of arm weight distribution, wrist flexibility, and micro-adjustments in bow pressure, demonstrating how these technical subtleties directly influence projection, tonal warmth, and articulation clarity. Structured technical regimens incorporate progressive etudes, interval training, double-stop refinement, and shifting drills to enhance coordination and endurance without introducing muscular tension.
As students advance, we engage in detailed repertoire analysis spanning multiple stylistic periods, including Baroque articulation clarity, Classical balance, Romantic expressiveness, and Contemporary interpretive experimentation.
