About Miguel

Graduated in Music by the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (2007) and with a complete and enriched training through additional courses and postgraduate courses abroad (see below).

Teaching:

Nearly 2 decades of teaching experience. I have had students of all ages and levels, from different nationalities and cultures, with different projects and goals.
I fundamentally appreciate the system of private lessons because, through the flexibility that characterizes it, it allows personalized attention to be provided to each student, which translates into better definition of objectives, better organization of time and a more efficient transmission of content, since the amount of information is better managed and adapts to the learning pace of each student.
I make a customized plan, being able to create our own deadlines, agendas and objectives and therefore achieve better progress.

Artistic Activity:

Almost 2 Decades of Experience as a Professional Musician:
I was part of some orchestras for a few years, such as the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (Algarve), the Orchester-atelier Ostinato (Paris), the Julien Coriatt Jazz Orchestra (Paris).
In recent years I have mainly developed regular and very rewarding work as a guest musician with various orchestras and ensembles, such as: Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, Sinfonietta de Lisboa, etc.
The musical projects in which I have participated over the years range from solo concerts, chamber and symphonic music, to opera (TNSC, CPO, OPART) and ballet (CNB, Quorum Ballet) productions, including recordings of and even music for films, including a huge number of projects from Pop, Jazz, World Music, Fado, etc., with internationally renowned conductors, artists and ensembles, in a wide variety of musical styles.

Some collaborations with different artists and structures:

- Classical: Plácido Domingo, June Andersson, Natalie Dessay, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Companhia Portuguesa de Opera, Atelier Lyrique de l'Opera National de Paris, etc.
- Ballet: National Ballet Company, Quorum Ballet.
- Jazz: Mario Laginha, Bernardo Sassetti, Jacques Morelembaum, Julien Coriatt, John Betsch, Peter Giron, Victorija Gecyte, etc.
- Fado: Carlos do Carmo, Mariza, Camané, Mafalda Arnauth, Nuno da Câmara Pereira, Kátia Guerreiro, etc.
Pop: Ala dos Namorados, Ana Bacalhau, Sérgio Godinho, António Zambujo, Mafalda Veiga, Tim (Xutos & Pontapés), Rodrigo Leão, etc.
- Tv & Radio: France 2, France Musique, Tv Public Sénat (France), TVCom (Belgium - Brabant Wallon), RTP, RDP Antena 2, etc.

Some of the most prestigious rooms where I have performed:

Salle Gaveau, Paris; Theater du Châtelet, Paris; Opera Comique, Paris; Center Pompidou, Paris; Theater Montansier, Versailles; Opera de Tours, Tours; Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège; National Theater São Carlos, Lisbon; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Belém Cultural Center, Lisbon; São Luiz Theatre, Lisbon; Trindade Theatre, Lisbon; Camões Theatre, Lisbon; Lisbon Coliseum; Porto Coliseum; Rivoli Theatre, Porto; Altice Arena, Lisbon; Tivoli BBVA, Lisbon, etc.

The lessons are intended for students of:

All levels and ages, from beginner to professional

Adults and amateurs are very welcome and will receive full understanding and support regarding their motivations, projects, and available study time

Children are very welcome and will receive appropriate guidance in a playful and engaging atmosphere suited to their age and concentration level

Extra support lessons for students from conservatories and music schools

Preparation for competitions, entrance exams, and auditions (Conservatories, Music Universities, Orchestras)

Technical maintenance/re-evaluation for professionals — sometimes there’s nothing better than a fellow musician to offer advice and suggest new perspectives

Lesson structure:

Personalized study plan, fully tailored to each student’s goals

Dynamic and constant adaptation to the student’s learning pace and available weekly practice time

Well-structured and prepared lessons, designed to be engaging and enjoyable, following the best pedagogical practices

Motivation and satisfaction: through effective weekly planning of lessons and practice time, and by managing both the amount of information and the technical challenges, the student maintains a healthy and stimulating balance — feeling secure about what they already master, while being motivated and determined to learn and challenge themselves further each week

My goal during lessons is to encourage curiosity, research, and experimentation — essential habits not only for developing individual technique but also for shaping musical personality, taste, and critical sense — making lessons more interactive and engaging

Student-centered approach: focus on the quality of the learning process, responding to each student’s specific questions in a calm, constructive, and encouraging atmosphere, guiding them toward greater autonomy so they can increasingly find and choose solutions that best suit them

Instruction delivered logically and clearly, combining rigor with simplicity, so that concepts are easy to understand, remember, and naturally assimilate

Friendly and welcoming environment, while remaining focused and goal-oriented

Technical and artistic quality, with attention to every aspect — from general principles to the details, nuances, and subtleties that make a real difference

Posture and movement: monitoring and providing solutions adapted to each student’s anatomy, physique, and physiology, including muscle tension regulation, as these aspects are crucial both for technical performance and for physical comfort and well-being during and after practice

Development of good study organization and time management methods

Mental training and conditioning to improve skills such as attention, concentration, memory, and stress control

Improvement of active listening and musical hearing through relevant and appropriately timed exercises

Timely and adequate theoretical training in: Music Reading and Writing, Solfège, explanation of concepts, expansion of musical vocabulary, historical and cultural context of studied works, as well as reading and research suggestions to help students broaden their horizons independently

Awareness of teamwork with other musicians — presentation and familiarization with different types of traditional ensembles and their roles (orchestras, chamber music, leadership, accompaniment, etc.), and ways to prepare for easy adaptation and integration into each project

Mission:

My mission is to transmit, practice, and equip students with a solid foundation of violin technique principles and fundamentals in a practical and enjoyable way, while developing their artistic, creative, and communicative sides.

The desired outcome is that, through informed study based on excellent references and guided, logical, and structured exploration, without forgetting the playful and musical side, students achieve deep well-being rooted in an individualized technique tailored to them.

Furthermore, I aim to provide students with analytical and critical-thinking skills so they can develop an informed and up-to-date artistic personality, and progressively gain independence as musicians — allowing them, for example, to easily join groups with different musical languages and approaches, or even to create their own artistic projects and partnerships.

Ultimately, my main goal is for students to feel that they are growing musically, artistically, and intellectually, and that they are writing and living their own story — finding and sharing, through this fascinating instrument, the greatest musical satisfaction.

    a) Calma, persistência, regularidade

    Empatia e disponibilidade. São superpoderes.
