About Marc
I have a patient approach to teaching and believe strongly in positive encouragement and motivation. Enjoying the process of learning, and playing with and for others, is what really matters to me. I believe that the most important thing in learning to play the violin is learning to love it from the start. This is what will keep you interested in the long run, and it makes all other learning possible.
I am classically trained, with an advanced violin performance certificate (Associate in Violin Performance qualification, Royal Schools of Music) and Grade 8 in Violin (UNISA).

Come and learn simply for fun and for the love of it, and if you're taking graded exams, I'll help you prepare and guide you through the process. Finding this love as a child or an adult is to discover a lifelong gift. Come and give it a try!
I teach classical violin technique, focusing on creating a beautiful, strong and relaxed tone and playing in tune at all times. Together, these are the key challenges in playing the violin - and once you begin to understand them, you will surprise yourself with the progress you can make in learning this challenging and beautiful instrument.
For beginners, the progress may feel slow for a while, and some people get frustrated and give up at this stage. However, the violin can be a complex instrument to hold and balance comfortably, and the first steps take time to master. Sticking to it through the initial stages is very important. The first steps cannot and should not be rushed, and we will take them at your pace.
Lessons are at my home in Capri. Lessons are typically an hour for adults and 45 or 30 minutes for children under 15.
I have some violins to rent, so you can try it out without having to invest in a new one.
