About Mestry

I am a mother-tongue English speaker with degrees in the Humanities and Law, a lawyer by profession with university-level English, Afrikaans and Latin. Recently TEFL certified. Lengthy, enriching experience in teaching workplace skills (human rights; public health research and societal development) to second-language English speakers. Growing-up in a multilingual society meant that I have always been sensitised to better communication. I am more convinced that reading can still the mind and that starts with children and wondrous picture-books.

About the lesson

My approach is built on opening-up a child's worldview, gently steering and refining English language abilities in a calm and grounding environment. A proficient English speaker and builder of human potential to diverse second-language speakers. A dedicated time in reading forms a connection for absorption of words, story-lines and illustrations from my selection or self-chosen picture-books. Learning aims are adjusted to level, pace and focus. Lessons vary from 20 to 30 minutes. Suited to 5 to 12 year old and beginner-level readers to improve English literacy.
