About Andrea

Hi! My name is Andrea and I graduated in 2023 with an ATAR of 98.10 (VCE). On my VCE subject list, there was not a single subject I enrolled in which did not contain an essay component — that's how much I love writing essays.

I achieved 40+ study scores in all of my VCE subjects, my top 2 being English (45) and History: Revolutions (47).

My approach to VCE English was, in all honesty, an extremely pleasant one — I achieved a raw 45 study score with minimal study time and barely any practice essays (I know, sounds crazy) because of a single thing: a very strong understanding of exactly what assessors and examiners wanted to read.

From Year 7, I had essentially built an extremely solid foundation of skills in text response and creative writing (as a hobby). In Year 9, I learned how to tackle Argument and Language Analysis so that by Year 12, the confidence I had in my skills saved me both stress and many hours of lost sleep.

I know that this is not the experience that many students have, and it is this awareness that has made English one of my favorite subjects to tutor, from when I started this job in 2024.

My past students have all achieved scores in the high 30s and well into the 40s, but what I am proudest of is having saved them (much-dreaded) exam stress and providing them with the comfort and confidence that I was afforded by trusting my own capabilities when I was a student, in your exact position.

As an English tutor, my singular goal is for all students across the state to have a truly enriching time in the subject and be able to genuinely enjoy what they read, gaining critical thinking and analytical skills along the way — these abilities manifesting in top marks and consistent academic performance in the subject.

About the lesson

I am exceedingly familiar with the VCAA examiner guidelines and assessor expectations, having attended many conferences hosted by certified VCAA markers.

> Guided and collaborative writing sessions, where we discuss key structures and annotate texts together.

Many students struggle with a solid comprehension of assigned texts and structure — in fact, these are most likely to be the culprits behind a bad mark and negative feedback.

> Modeled writing samples, produced by me in-class.

From my time as a student, I have been able to produce complete essays in 30-40 minutes — this skill means that I will be able to demonstrate for you exactly how to secure your structural and technical understanding of VCE English and work on speed, one of the core concerns of students annually across the state.
