About Lucy

My experience in applying to the University of Oxford for English has taught me how passion drives the best results for this subject. I read and write widely even outside of my academic work. I highly encourage my students to do the same as it enables the development of an individual literary voice.

About the lesson

English Literature is best understood as a multifaceted discipline, given that it encompasses many other subjects such as history, psychology and philosophy. Whilst there is a leap in the complexity of ideas expected in the A level compared to the GCSE, this is nothing to be overwhelmed by. On the contrary, this allows the student wider freedom in navigating prose, poetry and drama.

My first lessons with each student will be focused on deep reading of their chosen texts and annotation. I will also offer resources so that they can read around the subject, as exam boards emphasise the importance of linking historical context to authorial intent. After that, we will look at essay planning under timed conditions. Eventually, we will look at structuring a full essay.

I had Lucy help me with English all throughout year 11 and nothing has helped me more. Not only is she intelligent and knows the subject inside out but she is incredibly kind and patient and was with me every step of the way. I can’t recommend her help enough!
