About Haruna

Hi, I’m Haruna, a University of Sydney student who spent most of my life growing up in Japan. Being bilingual in Japanese and English has always been an important part of who I am. Living between two cultures has helped me understand different perspectives and ways of learning.

I want to teach because I know how meaningful it is to connect through language. Japanese can feel difficult at first, but with the right guidance, it becomes much more enjoyable and rewarding. I hope to help you feel more confident, comfortable, and motivated as we progress together step by step!

I also provide guidance for students preparing for IB Japanese A, drawing on my own experience with the course to help students navigate its challenges and approach their studies with greater confidence and clarity.

About the lesson

My lessons are usually 45 minutes to 1 hour and are fully personalised to each student’s level and goals. I focus on building strong foundations in grammar and vocabulary, while also helping to improve your speaking confidence and natural expression. I like to include conversation practice so students can use Japanese in a practical, real-life way.

I also offer SL IB Japanese A support, particularly for Paper 1 (text analysis). In my final IB exams, I achieved a 7 in Paper 1, and I aim to help you understand how to analyse texts effectively, structure high-scoring responses, and meet the IB marking criteria. I can assist with unpacking prompts, identifying stylistic features, and developing clear, well-supported interpretations.

My lessons are suitable for Japanese learners of all levels, from complete beginners to high school and IB Japanese A (SL) students, who want to build stronger reading, writing, and speaking skills and gain confidence in exams.

I’m patient, encouraging, and happy to adapt my teaching style depending on what works best for you!

Perfect! Haruna is super patient, kind and understanding, she is also very supportive and will answer any questions you have.
