About Olalekan
Hello! I'm Olalekan (Dr. Balogun), an Assistant Professor and Acting Departmental Co-Chair at Trinity Western University and a full-stack EdTech developer based in Langley, BC.
I hold a PhD from York University and completed postdoctoral research in Physics at the University of Toronto. Alongside my academic career, I have spent years building for the web: I am the lead architect and developer of more than 36 deployed web applications, from interactive learning platforms and simulation games to secure exam systems used in real university courses.
My toolkit includes HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress and Python, AI-powered development with Claude and Gemini, and the full Adobe creative suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) plus Canva and OBS Studio. I have also worked as Lead Media Architect producing enrollment and alumni media for York University.
As an educational developer and instructional designer, I have trained over 100 university faculty and teaching assistants in digital teaching tools, and I designed an online course taken by more than 130 students each semester. I'm also the founder of the Prince Casper Foundation, which supports education in underserved communities.
My teaching style is patient, energetic and supportive, with open dialogue and a safe space to make mistakes. I believe everyone can learn to design and build for the web - my job is to make it clear, fun and achievable for you.

My lessons are practical, project-based and built around YOUR goals. By the end of our first few sessions you will have something real and live that you built yourself - a website, an app, a brand graphic or an edited video.
WHAT I TEACH
- Web design: layout, typography, colour, responsive design, UX basics, Figma/Canva mock-ups
- Web development: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress, databases, hosting and deployment
- Vibe coding (AI-assisted development): building working apps with Claude, Gemini and other AI tools, prompt engineering, debugging AI-generated code and shipping it online
- Graphic design: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva for logos, social media, posters and branding
- Video editing: Premiere Pro, After Effects and OBS Studio for YouTube, reels, course videos and motion graphics
MY METHOD
I am a university professor and instructional designer, and I have trained more than 100 university faculty and teaching assistants. I use proven learning design (backward design, active retrieval, gamified missions) so concepts stick. Each lesson follows a simple plan:
1. Quick review of what you built last time
2. A short, clear demo of the new skill
3. Hands-on building while I guide you step by step
4. A mini-project or challenge to practise before next lesson
