About Abi
My love for the German language began through studying its literature, culture and history, and I am excited to share that enthusiasm with students and help them discover the confidence and enjoyment that comes with learning a new language.
I have spent a year living and working in Germany, where I taught English as a foreign language, giving me first-hand experience of the challenges and rewards of language learning. I now work as a secondary school teacher supporting students with a wide range of learning needs, which has strengthened my ability to create patient, encouraging and personalised lessons that work for each individual student.
I want to teach because I believe languages can open up new opportunities and perspectives. Seeing students grow in confidence, overcome challenges and realise they are capable of more than they thought is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. Whether you are preparing for an exam, building your speaking confidence, or simply wanting to improve your German, I aim to make lessons engaging, supportive and tailored to your goals :)

I am a teacher, and tutor German with a passion for helping students develop both their language skills and their confidence. I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in German Language and Literature, where I specialised in German translation and literature analysis from medieval to modern.
I also lived and worked in Germany, spending a year teaching English as a foreign language. This experience gave me first-hand insight into language learning from both sides and helped me understand the challenges students face when building confidence in another language.
Alongside tutoring, I currently work as a secondary school teacher supporting students with special educational needs in an alternative provision setting. This has strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching style to each individual student, whether they need extra support with confidence, organisation, exam preparation or finding a learning approach that works for them.
My lessons are tailored around each student’s goals, whether they are preparing for GCSE or A Level German, looking to improve their speaking skills, or simply wanting to become more confident using the language. I focus on creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and developing their skills at their own pace.
For exam students, I can provide targeted support with grammar, vocabulary, speaking practice, written work and exam technique. I have experience supporting GCSE German speaking exams and am currently preparing an A Level German student, giving me a strong understanding of the skills and preparation needed to succeed.
I believe that learning a language should be more than memorising vocabulary and grammar rules; it should open the door to communication, culture and new perspectives. My aim is to help students not only achieve their academic goals, but also develop genuine confidence and enjoyment in using German.

Abi is very patient and super dedicated to her subject. Sie hat mir viel geholfen!! I was really nervous about my German speaking A level but ended up getting an A* in my German A level
Abi helped me prepare for my German GCSE and I got a 9! She gave me useful feedback and good sentence starters to show off using advanced language (conditional tense etc). She was really friendly and helped me be confident for the exam. We did lots of mock tests and I always got super detailed feedback, which was really helpful when preparing for exams. Deffo would recommend!
