About Jasmine

My name is Jasmine and I am currently in my final year of studying Music and Music Psychology at the University of Leeds. I am a qualified flautist with 15 years of experience, I achieved a performance diploma ARSM (48/50), and received full marks for my GCSE and A Level music performance component.

I have been playing the flute since I was 7 and I have enjoyed every second of it! Some of my favourite memories include playing in numerous musical theatre pit bands (Beauty and the Beast, Oklahoma!, Shrek, Guys and Dolls, Hairspray), played principal and piccolo in university and youth orchestras, I also play Alto and Bass flute in LSTwo, a contemporary music group.

I am a friendly and patient person, I aim to cast a positive impact through lessons, where long-lasting passion for music can grow. My foundation in teaching is based on my previous experience. I attended masterclasses by Lady Jeanne Galway, Robert Winn, Emma Halnan. I also worked closely with professional orchestras such as playing side by side with Manchester Camerata, and completed an internship with Opera North Youth Orchestra.

Lessons can be offered in Mandarin and Cantonese.

About the lesson

The lessons are largely versatile and are tailored to each student's needs, we can spend the first lesson together discussing how we can best customise to your musical goals!

I believe that music (and flute!) is for everyone, regardless of age and ability. Hence I take pride in supporting each student individually, so that everyone can enjoy flute playing, and bring the best of themselves. Lessons will always shape around individual needs. Specifically for early learners, introduction to music theory will always be incorporated.

I am committed to helping all flute players to build a positive, and long-standing relationship with music. This includes encouraging healthy posture and habits. To become a versatile musician, I aim to introduce a range of genres and styles of music to the students' repertoire. I encourage a strong technical foundation, as well as critical thinking when it comes to expressivity, which will have lasting effects on the player's career.

Having been through numerous exams and qualifications, I am experienced in supporting flautists who are undertaking instrument grading exams: ABRSM, MTB (Music Teacher's Board), Trinity; school exams: school/scholarship performance exam, GCSE/ A Level performance exam; youth orchestra/ pit band auditions; competitions and more.

Fun fact, she always likes to teach me (a cellist) how to play the flute, and I can see her genuine passion for it!
