  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I’ve always been fascinated by how the world works — from the way bridges stand to how water flows underground — which led me to study civil engineering. Along the way, I realised that subjects like maths, physics, and chemistry are the language of engineering. While completing my PhD and teaching at the university, I started helping classmates and younger students with challenging concepts. Seeing their confidence grow sparked my passion for tutoring.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach maths, physics, chemistry, and civil engineering subjects (including geotechnical, structural, hydraulics, and environmental engineering). I love showing how abstract ideas — like forces, equations, and chemical reactions — shape the real world. For example, linking trigonometry to bridge design or soil mechanics to the stability of buildings. I enjoy problem-solving and helping students understand “why” something works, not just how. Memorisation without understanding is the part I dislike the most.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes — during my university years, one of my professors could make complex topics seem simple and relevant. His enthusiasm and clarity made me realise that good teaching is about empowering others to think critically. That approach has inspired my own tutoring style.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience & empathy — meeting students where they are. Clarity & structure — breaking topics into logical steps. Adaptability — adjusting methods to suit different learning styles. Inspiration — making lessons engaging and showing real-world value. Support & encouragement — helping students build confidence.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Once, while helping a high school student with physics, we linked projectile motion to their love for basketball. We calculated the perfect shooting angle and speed — and suddenly, physics was no longer abstract but fun and useful. That “aha!” moment changed the student’s attitude toward the subject and reminded me how real-life connections unlock learning.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

STEM subjects can seem intimidating and overly theoretical. Many students lose confidence when they can’t immediately apply what they learn. I’ve also faced the challenge of keeping up with new teaching methods — especially digital tools and AI — but I’ve embraced them to make lessons more interactive and engaging.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I’m passionate about helping students overcome their fear of complex subjects. I enjoy turning confusion into curiosity and showing how maths, physics, and engineering build the world around us. Beyond that, I’m passionate about mentoring — helping students not just succeed in exams but become problem-solvers and independent thinkers.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I bring deep academic expertise (PhD and 4+ years of university teaching) and combine it with a personalised, student-first approach. My lessons are interactive, practical, and confidence-building. Students often say I help them finally 'get it” — and that’s the best compliment I can receive.
