About Anita
Having completed my undergraduate degree in Music at Cambridge University, I am now studying for a master’s degree, also in Music. Whilst performance has played a large part in my life, especially during my time at university, I thoroughly enjoy the theoretical, historical and analytical perspectives with which one can view music. It’s such an interdisciplinary subject and I find that fascinating! At school in my hometown of Salisbury, I sat A Level exams in Music, French and Philosophy and I also took Grade 8 Theory in my penultimate year. I am therefore familiar with the structure of these exams and how to utilise those skills in strengthening an application for further education. I love meeting new people and have always been interested in tutoring as I think that it’s a beneficial experience for both tutor and tutee. Outside of music, I really enjoy running (the London Marathon is on my bucket list!), reading P. G. Wodehouse and cooking Indian food!

I think that conversation is an important tool in learning and I will teach primarily by discussing work submitted prior to the lesson. When I was preparing for exams, I would often talk out loud to myself to embed information in my head. I believe that students should be able to vocalise what they know, as the ability to explain a topic to someone else indicates confident knowledge and also shows their capability to write coherent answers under exam conditions. My aim is for students to arrive at answers largely by themselves, my role being to steer them in the right direction and providing help where necessary. Learning should be enjoyable and I hope to make my lessons interesting and, by extension, memorable. Progress is, unfortunately, best measured by past papers in my opinion; however, I want to make this process less monotonous by answering questions more informally through dialogue.
