About Bea
I understand why so many students find English difficult, I struggled with it myself when I was younger, particularly with spelling and grammar, and it put me off the subject for a long time. But English is so much more than syntax and rules. When you approach a text as a story rather than a task, it becomes genuinely engaging.
As a tutor, my goal is to help you achieve the grades you are aiming for, but also to help you actually enjoy the process of getting there. In my experience, the two go hand in hand, students who find a way into a subject naturally produce better work.
I am currently studying Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol, where the skills I gained from English are utilised in not only how I tackle the reading list, but also in understanding how literature reflects political climates and can be used as a tool to both comprehend history and the present.

My lessons focus on building the core skills needed to excel in English: close reading, essay planning, and analytical writing. Typically sessions include working through a passage together, identifying key quotes and themes, before moving on to structuring an essay plan and learning how to link quotes to analysis, themes, and context effectively. However, I am happy to tailor sessions to specific needs and desired focuses.
Lessons run for one hour, giving enough time to work through a text in depth without losing focus.
I have experience supporting younger children with reading and text comprehension, as well as working with Year 9 students to develop their understanding of literature and written analysis.
My lessons are aimed at GCSE and A-Level students studying
English Literature, whether consolidating the fundamentals or pushing for top marks.
