About Caitlin

I am a 22 year old music graduate from the University of Cape Town. I've been singing and taking lessons since I was 6 years old and I am currently teaching singing and piano lessons full time. Growing up, I entered many eisteddfods and completed many exams, all the way up to Grade 8 Trinity. I have had many teachers over the last 15 years and I feel that this has taught me a lot about teaching singing to beginners and building confidence on stage.

I also began playing piano when I was 14 and I fell in love with the instrument. During high school, I completed exams up to Grade 6 Trinity level and then continued my piano studies in my first and second year of university. While I am definitely not a virtuoso player, I can definitely teach beginners up to a grade 5 level.

I also took music as a subject in high school, all the way to matric and I was in the top 1% of the country for IEB Music with my final music matric result of 94%. I studied music theory all the way up to my second year in university.

Music is my life! I love playing and performing. I even write my own songs and record them for youtube and other platforms. My youtube channel has over 100 000 views in total and while I don't have a certificate for that, I still feel like it is quite an accomplishment. ;)

I would love to share the gift of music to people who are interested in learning which is why I want to teach!

About the lesson

For singing lessons:
I never want a lesson to be boring or filled with anxiety. I want the student to be enthusiastic about what they learn and play. I believe in a positive, relaxed teaching style so that students feel encouraged and never scared or disappointed in themselves. I know what it's like to come out of a lesson and feel demotivated, and I would never want my student to feel that.

At the start of a lesson, we would warm up the voice. This makes sure that you do not strain your voice and damage it. After that, we can move to the real thing - learning to sing! We can choose songs to work on and go through them together. I can see what you have practiced and we can touch on any areas that could be improved so that you can sound your best!

At the end of a lesson, I will write down a few notes of what to practice for homework so that you can come to each lesson a little better than before!

I can teach singing in either a classical or popular style as I am proficient in both genres.
