About Sofie
I was employed by UCLA to provide one-on-one appointments, general Office Hours, and workshops for students enrolled in a year-long interdisciplinary course titled Interracial Dynamics in American Culture and Society! I worked as a Writing and Research specialist for three consecutive years and I take great pride in meeting with students to develop their skills as effective writers and communicators.
I graduated UCLA with distinctions in College Honors, College Scholars and Honors Fellows in addition to graduating summa cum laude. My personal education in the disciplines of Geography and Ethnic Studies— two disciplines of Social Sciences— has greatly developed and honed my skills as a writer and researcher; I understand the importance of writing with a plan in mind and of the editing process.
Prior to attending UCLA, I enrolled in my school district’s accelerated math classes— I completed all the courses available at my high school (up to AP Calculus) by eighth grade!

I enjoy building a professional relationship with my students that fosters a sense of mentorship, whether that be by helping with homework and study guides, or by creating paper outlines and editing papers for organization and clarity!
I like to begin my sessions by checking in with my students to assess their personal goals— both short-term and long-term. Once we have a clear sense of their areas of need, we can jump into the lesson! It’s extremely important to me that the student feels ownership of their work and leaves the session with the confidence to complete their coursework to their greatest ability. One way I achieve this in my writing sessions is through non-directive assistance, meaning that I will guide the student to make any necessary improvements rather than dictate to them what they should change and how exactly to change it. This means that the student will leave our session with skills they can carry with them.
