About Elizabeth
I am a friendly, patient, and reliable tutor who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people. I believe that every child can thrive academically when given the right support, encouragement, and approach. My background in Sociology and Social Policy has given me a deep understanding of the barriers many children face, and my upcoming MA in Educational Neuroscience will further inform how I support students with different learning needs.
Alongside my tutoring, I have experience working as a nanny-governess with boys and girls aged 4 to 13, and therefore recognise the importance of building warm and open relationships, designing lessons that utilise the child's interests, and ensuring sessions are both enjoyable and informative. I take a warm but professional approach, building trusting relationships with students so they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and being vulnerable. I believe this is the foundation of effective learning. I am also highly organised, communicative, and committed to working closely with parents to ensure we are all supporting the student's progress together.
In my free time I love learning about psychology, politics, sociology, literature, philosophy, the classics, and biology. For fun I enjoy playing the drums, acting, travelling to new places, rollercoasters, and reading. I am passionate about education and helping children unlock their potential, whether that means gaining a place at a competitive school, catching up in core subjects, or simply building the confidence to enjoy learning again. I plan to work in educational policy and curriculum design in the future after completing my MA in Educational Neuroscience.

My lessons are typically one hour long, though I am flexible depending on the student's age and needs. I take a patient, supportive, and tailored approach to each student, building trust and confidence alongside academic skills. I use a mix of targeted resources, past papers, and creative activities to keep lessons engaging and effective. I assess each student's strengths and areas for development, then design a personalised programme that addresses their specific goals, whether that's exam preparation, catching up, or building foundational skills.
I have 9 years of experience as a private tutor and governess, preparing students for 7+, 8+, ISEB Pretests, 11+, KS1 and KS2 SATs, and CAT4 tests for international school entrance. I have successfully helped students gain places at Westminster Cathedral Choir School, St Paul's Boys, Winchester College, Eton College, Canford, and Invictus International School, Malaysia. I also have extensive experience providing remedial support for students with SEN including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dyspraxia. I have worked with older students at GCSE level with SEN needs, helping them raise their grades significantly, and have been a full time governess for homeschooling students, raising GCSEs from Grade 2s to 5-7s across multiple subjects.
Beyond exam preparation, I can help select high quality novels to complement literacy learning, building cross curricular and cultural awareness while increasing vocabulary. I can also help advise on resources, novels and experiences which can complement tuition, supporting common entrance topics such as history, geography, and religious studies and Latin. My approach is to make learning engaging and connected to the wider world, helping students develop a genuine love of learning alongside exam success.
My experience also includes voluntary work with IntoUniversity, Wise Mentoring Scotland, and Cities for Children, where I supported students from disadvantaged backgrounds and those requiring additional support. I teach English, maths, and reasoning across KS1, KS2, and KS3, as well as remedial reading, writing, and maths support. I also offer GCSE support for students with SEN needs. Whether your child needs help with entrance exams, building confidence in core subjects, or catching up, I am committed to helping them thrive.
