About Naomi
I’m a third-year Microbiology student at University College Cork with a keen interest in language and literature. I achieved a H2 in Higher Level English for my Leaving Cert and have always enjoyed analysing texts, crafting compelling arguments, and refining my writing skills. My academic background has given me plenty of experience with library-based assignments, such as literature reviews and poster presentations, which have deepened my appreciation for research and critical analysis—skills that are essential in English as well.
During my Leaving Cert, I genuinely enjoyed the subject, to the point where I completed all questions on the exam, even though I had the option to skip some (Covid years). Studying English never felt like a chore; I loved exploring different texts, developing arguments, and expressing ideas through writing. This passion is something I bring into my tutoring, helping students find their own confidence and enjoyment in the subject.

My tutoring approach is designed to make lessons engaging, effective, and tailored to each student's individual needs. I use active learning techniques to help students fully engage with the material, encouraging them to participate in discussions, ask questions, and apply what they've learned. This helps improve retention and ensures that students develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
Each lesson typically lasts for 1 hour, during which we focus on key areas such as essay structure, critical thinking, and text analysis. I guide students through practice questions, help them refine their writing, and work on strategies to maximize their exam performance. My goal is to create an interactive and supportive learning environment where students feel confident and motivated to improve.
While I don’t have formal teaching experience, my background in study groups and helping classmates has given me the skills to explain complex ideas in an approachable way. With my H2 in Leaving Cert English and my passion for the subject, I aim to support 5th and 6th year Leaving Cert students in reaching their full potential.
