She's good at explaining and very patient with everyone.
I have had the pleasure of working with Refilwe last year (2018) during the NASSP & SAAO Winter School. What we normally do during the winter school is that we students into small groups of five or six. Each group is assigned a project and a tutor and sometimes an academic staff also joins in and assist with the project. The tutors are responsible to make that their group (students) work on their projects under their supervision and successfully complete their projects and write reports and then give an oral presentation at the end of the winter school.
Last year Refilwe was one of the tutors and she was tutoring six students, from at least four different universities during the winter school. When you put students from different universities and give them a topic to work on, you as a mentor/tutor have to work extra to bring every student up to speed with the project. This involves explaining physics and astronomy concepts that are completely new to most of the students and making sure that none of them is left behind. Refilwe took these six students and worked hard and made sure that her group finishes their project in time, from collecting and reducing data which they then analyze to derive science or meaning from it. This was followed by them writing a scientific report individually and preparing slides for their oral presentation. Not only did they finish in time, but they also gave one of the best oral presentations. Refilwe was with this six students from day one until the last day. She sometimes worked during tea breaks and after hours, explaining the project to the students. This shows that Refilwe was dedicated to her work and she excelled in her role as a tutor and mentor from the start to finish. She showed much passion in science and convinced some of the students to start thinking about their careers and also she gave them advice on career choices.
I recommend her in every role that she might take or be interested in in the future. There is no doubt that whatever she touches turns into a success. She showed that during the winter school and we have kept in contact since then.Based on what I know about Refilwe as my friend, she's reliable, kind, patient and very passionate about physics. Her love for this field is what fuels her to always keep going even when the going gets tough. This love is what I personally think will make her a good Superprof.
She is smart, very passionate about passing on what she has learned onto others. She enjoys leading a helping hand wherever its needed. She always makes sure she is available whenever she can to help other students. She keeps and meets her promises.
I have known her since my first year, she have been helping other students including myself I know she can be the best tutor
