I think it's important to break things down, track progress, get clear results, and practice. When students struggle, I try to figure out what's causing the problem and motivate them.
A typical lesson with me would include 20 minutes for questions and addressing any gaps in understanding, 30 minutes for moving forward, and 10 minutes for creative thinking.
But, there's no one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one student might not work for another. The main aim of private lessons is to adapt to the student's needs, so I'll do my best to discover what keeps my student motivated and helps them learn.
