About Chris
Hi, I’m Chris, an online piano, composition and music theory tutor. I help beginners, returning adult learners and GCSE/A-Level Music students develop confident practical skills, stronger musical understanding and effective practice habits.
I hold a BA in Music and an MA in Music Education with Distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire. I was awarded the Director’s Prize for Excellence in Music Education in 2023 and am currently undertaking doctoral research in Music Education.
Alongside teaching, I bring a background in performance, public concerts and music projects, including work connected with BBC Radio and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. I also founded an international composition project with conservatoire students in Ecuador.
My teaching is practical, supportive and tailored to the individual. GCSE students I have taught have regularly achieved grade 9s, and many students choose to remain in my studio for five years or more. Whether your goal is to play for enjoyment, prepare for an exam, develop technique or write better music, we will build a clear plan around it.

Lessons are available online in 30- or 60-minute sessions for learners of all ages and experience levels. I teach piano, music theory and composition, with GCSE/A-Level Music preparation available where needed. Each lesson is adapted to your goals, current level and musical interests.
We may work on technique, repertoire, efficient practice, sight-reading, applied music theory, composition, performance preparation or exam skills. Rather than treating these as separate subjects, I connect them to the music you are learning so that progress feels relevant and enjoyable.
After every lesson, you receive written notes with clear next steps. You will also have access to an online classroom with additional resources and learning tools developed for my students. You are welcome to send recordings or questions between lessons, so support continues beyond our scheduled time.
Online lessons use a platform designed for music tuition, with enhanced audio and video quality. I can provide a simple set-up guide before we begin.
