About Sylvie

I bring over 8 years of vocal coaching expertise with a commitment to guiding singers toward a balance of technical precision and expressive freedom. My students range from young singers tackling school and regional auditions, to college vocal majors, adults returning to music after years away, and professional musicians eager to polish their vocal and performance skills. The foundation of my teaching lies in establishing healthy vocal mechanics—focused on breath control, diaphragm engagement, vocal fold closure, resonance shaping, and consistent intonation—to enable sustainable vocal development and flexibility. Beyond technical mastery, I prioritize the emotional and artistic aspects of singing, helping students harness phrasing, dynamics, and narrative to connect meaningfully with their audience. My lessons are interactive and technology-enhanced, utilizing live recording for immediate feedback, piano accompaniment to support harmonic understanding, and digital tools for developing pitch accuracy, rhythmic precision, and ear training. Creativity is a vital component, so I incorporate original songwriting exercises and vocal improvisation to encourage artistic growth and self-expression. I teach across multiple genres including pop, R&B, jazz, musical theater, and contemporary styles, always tailoring material to the student’s voice and aspirations. For those preparing auditions or performances, I provide strategic coaching on song choice, memorization, stage presence, and performance mindset, alongside vocal health education focused on warm-ups, hydration, and vocal rest. My lessons foster a nurturing, structured atmosphere where students gain the technical skills, emotional insight, and confidence necessary to perform with both power and authenticity.

About the lesson

Singing connects the physiological and the poetic—it is both a craft and an art, requiring discipline and imagination in equal measure. My approach to voice instruction integrates core technical training with emotional authenticity, cultural dialogue, and reflective artistry. At the technical level, we begin with foundational elements like breath coordination, posture, and registration to build vocal control and ease.

I use exercises that develop strength without rigidity and flexibility without fragility, ensuring that students feel free and supported in their singing. We address everything from resonance and range extension to diction and intonation, always with an ear toward the kind of music the student loves and wishes to sing. But a well-crafted voice is only part of the story—expression is just as crucial.

I guide students through interpretive practices such as text analysis, mood mapping, and character study to bring greater depth to performance. I encourage them to take emotional risks, explore vulnerability, and connect their life experience to the music they choose. Cultural dialogue plays a vital role in our repertoire. I draw on vocal literature that spans languages, continents, and historical periods, challenging students to consider how culture shapes sound and meaning.

We talk about music as both aesthetic expression and social commentary, and we approach each piece with awareness and intentionality. Reflective artistry is the goal that binds it all. I teach students how to evaluate their own progress, ask good questions, and practice with intention. We celebrate breakthroughs and learn from obstacles, all in the spirit of steady, compassionate growth. My role as a teacher is to help students find their voice—not just acoustically, but metaphorically. When students feel seen and heard in every sense, they sing not just with sound, but with self.
