About Olive

I've been practicing rock/metal guitar since I was young, hoping to learn to be as rad a shredder as my idols one day. I ended up finding a cool little corner of the metal world for me through that journey, and I want to help you with that too. In the 18+ years of my playing, I've toured the USA and internationally with the band I created (Ice Giant), taught a great variety of awesome students with similar goals, and found a way to really get emotions out into the world.

I've taught in a variety of environments from in-person instrument teaching to recorded YouTube videos. If you're feeling creative, and want to write some sick rock n roll, we might be a good fit. Reach out if you think that might be you!

About the lesson

Not only will we go over cool new techniques and expand what you can do with your playing, but we'll unlock all the feelings you want to express through your instrument. Together, we'll help you not only be a better player, but a better artist.

Typically, we'll start by getting to know each other by me meeting you where you're at with your skill level. I am comfortable teaching beginner through advanced. I may not be as effective if you are an expert player already.
Some notable skills I can help with: songwriting, riff-writing, lead playing/shredding, sweeping, chord voicings, scales.

As we grow your skills, I'll make sure you can play well and know why each technique we go over is effective for both your playing and your expression. Let's make it so you can take exactly what you want from your mind, and turn it into something you want us to hear.

I am queer-affirming, and have taught/counseled neurodiverse (autistic folks and ADHDers) for a decade as well. I craft lesson plans to folks' individual needs.
