About Viya
With 3 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology (Piano History), I teach piano through the lens of jazz artistry and exploration. My focus is on improvisation, comping, and harmonic expansion. Students learn how to think like improvisers—listening deeply, reacting freely, and shaping tone with intention. Lessons blend jazz theory, ear training, and rhythmic development. Transcription is used to connect analysis with intuition. I emphasise developing harmonic awareness and rhythmic phrasing. My students include Early Intermediate learners and Professional jazz musicians refining their craft. Each session is interactive, combining structured learning with creative flow. I believe in teaching the mind to understand and the ear to lead. Lessons cultivate self-expression, not imitation. Together, we’ll explore jazz as both craft and conversation. In my piano teaching, every lesson is a balance between analysis and feeling. Students explore classical repertoire through form, harmony, and expression. We look at how composers shaped emotion through structure and contrast. Historical background gives context to phrasing, tempo, and tone. Lessons often include score study, listening, and reflection. I’m especially dedicated to guiding The Composer and The Therapy Seeker, helping them refine emotional depth. My method encourages slow, intentional learning for long-term growth. Students develop awareness of musical detail and artistic purpose. Technique is shaped by meaning, not repetition alone. I believe great playing is both intellectual and intuitive. Each session strengthens both precision and sensitivity. The result is music that feels authentic and alive. Together, we’ll bring timeless classical pieces into vivid expression.
