About Joana

My lessons are extremely dynamic and interactive where I use my students interests to create tailored lessons and exercises. I end each lesson with a reading exercise so students can get used to the sounds of the language and practice the pronunciation of words. My students need to complete daily exercises that are simple and quick, and summarise what was learned in previous lessons. This way they don't let the learnings to accumulate and they can clarify any immediate questions. Vocabulary, syntax, idiomatic expressions, grammar and pronunciation are practiced in a relaxed and informal environment. I believe that positive reinforcement is the key to learn a new language and that repeating exercises is fundamental to apply the acquired knowledge.

About the lesson

I lived in London for 7 years, where I worked for an international media agency, as a music and arts festival producer and a TV producer. For two years I gave private Portuguese lessons and my students felt confident to read and speak in Portuguese from the first weeks. My students like the way I teach because the classes are tailored for their needs , meet their interests and help them to understand the Portuguese culture and how the language works. No lesson looks the same. I'm an extremely patient teacher and I believe that each student as his/her own learning type and this is what guide the way I prepare my lessons.
