About Robert
Robert Szymanek, PhD, is a music tutor, coach and workshop leader. He has 15 years experience teaching in places such as The Royal Academy of Music, LSO Discovery and The University of Manchester. With a background in mindfulness and meditation, his coaching has helped countless professional and studying musicians to reduce stress and anxiety, find more joy and freedom in their music-making, and realise their full creative potential.
Robert aims to help each student discover and cultivate their unique path in music and find their own musical "voice". As well as guiding students successfully through the Grade system, he teaches improvisation, playing by ear, making arrangements of songs and other pieces, and composing, as well as ear-training exercises, sight-reading, sight-singing and music theory to an advanced level.
Robert has worked internationally as a composer and performer, receiving commissions in the USA, Japan, Dubai and the UK. He has released an album of his own work in 2017, with another due in 2020.
'The Sensitive Musician' website is Robert's way of bringing together his years of insight about musicianship and music-making. It features a regularly updated blog and an increasing list of resources to help practising musicians and students get the most out of their time playing, singing and writing, and discover themselves through music.
Future projects include a series of seminars and workshops at The University of Manchester, introducing Music students to the benefits of mindfulness practices to their creativity and well-being.

Robert has been an incredible teacher to our son, letting him express himself while gently and expertly teaching him piano and also working on his singing technique. We couldn't recommend him highly enough.
Rob teaches piano, theory, composition and gamalan to a very high level.
