About José Fabián

I am José Fabián, a Mexican tenor with a 5-octave vocal range. Some of the musical genres I sing the most are Pop, Gospel, R&B, balads, musical theater, jazz, soul and Mexican and Latin genres such as Mariachi or Cumbia.

At the age of 19 I became a professional singer when auditioned and got a place in the singing company of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), the best private school in Mexico. Since then, I have been part of 3 cultural events in my state with audiences of no less than 1500 assistants each and won a municipal singing contest called “Mineral de la Reforma es Voz y Suena” (July of 2022). My last artistic project was “Venancio”, a starring role in a musical called “Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar” by Nacho Cano, played at the biggest theatre of my state (Teatro Gota de Plata) on June of 2023.

I have had the chance to be coached by amazing professional singers such as Alejandro Ochoa (Mexican opera singer and musical theatre actor| 2021-), Irasema Terrazas (opera singer and actress| 2022), Beto Castillo (singer and actor| 2023) and even Cheryl Porter (the #1 vocal coach worldwide| 2023).

All of these experiences have allowed me to gain confidence, learn a bunch of different genres, find my own vocal identity and unlock the true potential of my voice.

I am currently an exchange student at The University of Sydney for Semester 2 (which ends in Nov 2023) and I would like to share my knowledge with other fellow singers whilst in Australia.

About the lesson

Welcome to the course “The power of your voice”.

This course aims to help you get an amazing vocal technique and fully understand your voice in order to unlock its true potential and find your own musical identity.

Lessons are individual, customized, 1hr long and at home (in person). No need for previous knowledge or experience. In your first lesson I will assess your singing skills, hear what you expect to achieve with my course and suggest the most suitable approach for your lessons. The first half of the lesson will be destined to vocalize and do some vocal workout. During the second half you will perform a song of your choice and we are going to point out what is good, what can be improved and, most importantly, how. Some parts of the lesson will be recorded to keep track of what was done previously, for me to understand better how I can help you and also for your personal records (videos will be uploaded to a Drive file to which only you and me will have access alongside a feedback document). I will also suggest suitable songs for you to learn that will help you practice what we cover in the lessons.

Lessons will cover topics such as:
- Vocal classification
- Confidence
- Pitch and tempo
- Appoggio and diaphragmatic breathing
- Vocal placement
- Vocal colours
- Basic registers (fry, chest, head, mix, belt)
- Smooth register transition
- Improving range (low and high notes without tension)
- Vocal agility
- Advanced registers (super head, falsetto, flageolet)
- Interpretation and dynamics
- Performance skills
- Musical identity
- Improvisation
- Extending range (super high notes and Whistles)

Very committed and a very good listener! Needs to improve vocal placement and feeling comfortable with different registers keeping a good breath control. Very good pitch.
